Fantasy baseball Top 300 player rankings and projections

Miguel Cabrera

Fantasy baseball season is rapidly approaching whether you're ready or not. Now's the time to determine a draft board and start prepping for your league.

Once again, Mike Trout is the undisputed No. 1 fantasy baseball player, closely followed by reigning MVP Miguel Cabrera. But following that, there are plenty of questions. With all of the movement this offseason, how will players like Prince Fielder, Robinson Cano, Jacoby Ellsbury, among others, fare in their new home? Clayton Kershaw is now the richest pitcher in baseball, but can he bring in the numbers for his owners? Are prospects like Byron Buxton worth stashing on your team for a potential summer call-up?

Whether you're in a Rotisserie or head-to-head league, study up with SI.com's 2014 Top 300, featuring player rankings, complete with projected stats for the 2014 season, and sortable by position and team. Also, don't forget to check out the rest of our expert fantasy baseball draft content, including team-by-team previews, position primers, breakouts and busts, burning questions, ongoing debates, draft strategies and more. Does a third-straight MVP award await Cabrera in October? If so, he'd be the first person to pull off the feat since Barry Bonds did so from 2001-04.

Cain didn't pitch nearly as poorly as his surface stats from last year suggest. He could be a very nice bargain on draft day because of that fact.

Zimmerman doesn't get much fanfare, but he has hit at least 25 homers in four of the last five seasons. He's a quietly productive player at a fairly shallow position.

Posey is almost certainly going to go earlier than this in your draft. His ranking this low is indicative of an overall depression in the catcher market.

Carpernter, quite simply, is going to have a very tough time measuring up to last year's standards. You want to play him as a second baseman, not a third baseman.

This is way sooner than you'll have to go to get Fister, who should finally get some recognition this year. Getting out of Detroit was the best thing that could happen to this ground-ball artist.

Gyorko has a real opportunity to be the next fantasy star at second base. At the very least, he should give you huge power production from the position.

Sabathia gives owners a pretty high floor of production for a pitcher this late in the draft. He's not the star he once was, but he is one of my favorite targets in 2014.

Dickey came crashing back to earth last year, but that makes him a potential bargain this season. He still should provide owners with a meaningful amount of strikeouts, and there's reason to believe he won't be as susceptible to home runs as he was in 2013.

Lincecum had a bounce-back campaign in 2013, putting up a 3.74 FIP alongside his 4.37 ERA, and striking out 193 batters in 197.2 innings. If nothing else, he's good for big-time strikeout totals.

Morrison has fallen apart after hitting 23 homers with the Marlins in 2011. He's worth a dart throw, but don't expect much.

A potential force in years to come, d'Arnaud is still a year or two away from being a truly relevant fantasy player.

Lohse doesn't strike anyone out, but he's had an ERA of 3.40 or better for each of the last three seasons.

There are worse places for a hitter to be than holding down a starting spot in Boston's lineup. Feel free to kick the tires on Nava this late.

Martinez will begin spring training as a starter. He's a longshot to be in the rotation when the season starts, but he'll carry value either way. If he does somehow find his way into the rotation, he'll be universally owned in mixed leagues.

Owings isn't the starter yet in Arizona, but Didi Gregorius did nothing to foster confidence last year, while Owings hit .330/.359/.482 at Triple-A Reno. He'll be the starter by May 1.
