2014 Prognostications As Of Right Now In The MLB

The Royals may be the benefactors of a vaunted AL East Division - and a massively improved AL West this year. I think Cleveland, Minnesota and Chicago will struggle to nail down 70 wins, and Detroit may also regress a couple of wins. This could help Kansas City break a 29 year playoff drought.

Okay, yes these may very well change in the next two months, however I must report on the early front runners to how things are shaping up from where teams stand today.

It is important when you are looking over people’s predictions that the sum of all wins equals 2430 wins.  The reason is because that is the number of games played in the Majors each year.

The ‘MLB Fancave’ in New York may have been the first ones to make that mainstream knowledge, yet smart baseball handicappers have been figuring this out for years.

The Rays led the Major Leagues in 2012 ERA (3.19) and were 3rd in team SO. They also converted 50 of 58 Saves. Even more impressive was that they were 45-31 with a 2.60 ERA after the ALL-Star Break. They traded veterans Wade Davis and James Shields away for top level prospects. The club then needed a second half surge to nail down a playoff spot in 2013. With Wil Myers and Chris Archer around for a full campaign, plus their organizational depth, I like this club to win the AL East.

The Dodgers have not won or appeared in the World Series since 1988. With the spending the ownership will do in the next decade, I would be surprised if the team doesn't rake in a multiple championships. The team finished off clinching the Division by going 58 - 23 in the 2nd half of 2013. They are one of the only free spending teams that have done well over the last 3 - 4 years in the MLB. I still maintain the notion, that the Dodgers will spend even more money if they do not win or go to the World Series this year. They start off with both of the MLB season opener and North America's 1st game in 2014. These guys are my early pick to have the best record in baseball.
