Top 5 Home Run Leaders in 2013

Chris Davis was awarded a 1 YR/$3.3 MIL contract in Arbitration for 2013, but based on his AL and MLB leading 53 HRs and 139 RBI. exactly what stratosphere of money will he enter based on those totals? The Baltimore franchise must consider 2014 to be their best chance for a deep playoff run. After this year, Davis will be making megabucks in 2014 and 2015 even in Arbitration - before hitting the Free Agency Market in 2016.

It is time to start preparing for upcoming fantasy leagues.  While I don’t participate in them anymore, I will do some top 5 and top ten list in order to aid you in your quest.

I will stick with the main categories.  Over the next few weeks this site will be tackling Saves Leaders, Holds, Stolen Bases, Wins, and we may sprinkle in a few others.

In addition, Active Lists for top players in offensive and defensive stats are to be presented.  This is done so we can see who is close to making the mark historically.

Well, I guess we don’t have to worry about Alex Rodriguez breaking anymore historical records in 2014, so hallelujah!

Chicks Dig The Long Ball

Cabrera has had back to back AL MVP seasons in 2012 and 2013. He has also won 3 straight AL Batting Titles. Cabrera is the best player offensively in the universe. He has put up 10 straight 100+ RBI campaigns, but he has racked in 276 RBI, and also 88 HRs. The 11 Year Veterans totals would have even been higher in 2013, but he fought a torn groin for the last half of the year.

TOP 5 HR Hitters in 2013

1. Chris Davis, BAL -  53

2. Miguel Cabrera, DET – 44

T3. Pedro Alvarez, PIT – 36

Pedro Alvarez finished 2nd amongst Third Baseman in the NL for HRs in 2012 with 30 (Headley led with 31). This latest campaign, he led the NL in HRs with Goldschmidt - and added 100 RBI for the Pirates, who made the playoffs for the 1st time since 1992.

T3. Edwin Encarnacion, TOR – 36

Encarnacion has put together back to back great seasons in the middle of the Jays lineup, bashing out 4 HRs in 2012, and then knocking out another 36 in 2013. At just a contract extension of 3 YRs/$29 MIL for 2014 - 2016, the Jays MGMT can be happy with the sluggers value.

T3. Paul Goldschmidt, ARI – 36

Goldschmidt led the NL in both HRs (tied with Alvarez) - and also had 16 more RBI (125) than the next guy (Jay Bruce at 109). The 26 Year Old from Wimington. Delaware also was narrowly eeked out of winning the NL MVP Voting, The big 1B still took home a Silver Slugger Award, and a Gold Glove to add to his amazing season.

Just missing the mark tied for 6th with 34 big flies each were Mark Trumbo, LAA, Alfonso Soriano, CHC/NYY and the ‘Big Donkey’ Adam Dunn cracked 34 HRs again to reach 30+ HRs for 9 of the last 10 years.

I still feel that Jose Bautista would have definitely finished in the top 3 of the list had he played the whole season – and not missed 44 games.  As it was he still finished 17th in the MLB for Tater – Trots with 28 last campaign.

Adam Jones was in 9th with 33 HRs for the Majors.

Evan Longoria finished in 10th with 32 HRs for the Rays.

14 guys only topped the 30 HR plateau.  There were 4 more guys tied with 30 HRs, Adrian Beltre, David Ortiz, Brandon Moss and Jay Bruce.

Jose Bautista is one the best best Home Run hitters in baseball, however the last few years, he has seen his season's cut short by injury. I am thinking the Blue Jays should make this guy their permanent DH after this year - in order to help preserve some of his health. Joey Bats cracked a MLB leading 54 HRs in 2010, then followed up with 43 HRs in 2011. The last two years he has put 27 HRs and 28 HRs respectively - however he has also missed 70 GP in 2012, and 44 last year. If he can stay on the field for a full year in 2014, expect him to challenge for the top 5 HR hitters in the MLB again.
