“Mr. Puig” And “Mr. Montero” More Namely: Step Away From The Buffet Table In The Offseason!

It happens to a few guys every year.  Seldomly does it threaten to plague a guys career.

I can think of Carl Everett blossoming over the his transition to the 2005 World Series White Sox win, to a big man in Seattle, who could hardly swing his hips around.

We remember how big Kevin Mitchell became after he was such in phenomenal condition early in his career.  But 40 pounds overweight like Jesus Montero waddled into the Mariners Spring Training? C’mon Man!

The only happy guy out of this news has to be Yasiel Puig, who is donning the scales 26 LBS heavier than when we saw him last.

Puig was in incredible shape, and had a fantastic rookie campaign last year. Gaining 26 pounds over the winter is not a good thing at all, but he should be able to overcome this a lot quicker than Jesus Montero. It will be interesting to see if he can drop some significant weight. Puig's all out speed was one of the reasons why MG Don Mattingly wants to hit him Leadoff in 2014. Puig hasn't fared so well this winter between this - and his speeding ticket.

As you can see from his left hand picture (2013) and right (2014) Puig was in incredible shape, and had a fantastic rookie campaign last year. Puig was going to add some more tonnage just for growing into his frame, but he also should not be that heavy.

Early alarm bells rang off for Mike Trout showing up to the Angels camp bigger in 2013 as well.  While Trout had another unbelievable year, his Stolen Bases were down, and it took him some time to adjust.

I don’t think that Yasiel Puig won’t be able to scale down this weight quickly enough.  He is a young charismatic man that will work hit tail in the next 6 weeks.

Puig hit for a 3 slash of .319//390/.534 in 2013, with 19 HRs, 42 RBI, 122 Hits and 66 Runs Scored in just 104 Games Played, spanning 383 official AB. For his efforts, he was 2nd in NL ‘ROY’ voting.

But the days of when he won’t be accounted for in the offseason have to be curbed. Dodgers have a lot riding on Puig – in taking their club to the next stratosphere in the NL West.

it seems that Puig likes to play ball fast, drive even faster, and who is to say he doesn’t love shoveling in as much food as he can possibly intake for when he is dining away from the playing Field.

Montero has no excuse, and he should be ashamed of himself.  I also guess that the Mariners were too busy fanning out flames in their head office, and signing Cano to be a good deal, to monitor the health of their PED using Catcher/DH.

Of all players, the team trainers should have been making periodic visits to the portly fellow.

Jack Zduriencik is throwing his hands up in the air about the situation, when he should be held responsible for his share of the blame.

Luckily for the Mariners, Michael Pineda hasn’t even thrown a pitch for the Yankees, otherwise this deal would be a catastrophic trade to epic proportions.

You seriously have to wonder about Montero on this.  The guy just said he ate, and did nothing else after playing Winter ball, where is the apology to the organization and the teammates?

Some of us on social media joked about the Cano 10 year deal, throwing around the picture below for how the guy might look in a decade – based on his $ earned and laid back effort.

2022 robinson canoMontero is not far away right now.

As a professional athlete, your body is the meal ticket to your financial wherewithal and long term future.

It seems the only meal ticket Montero has been concerned with is slamming down cheeseburgers at the all you can eat buffet!

Jesus Montero has gained 40 Pounds since finishing up with winterball This is unacceptable and he should be a one way ticket out of the PAC NW for his efforts. This comes on the heels of a 50 game PED suspension, and a lackluster 2013 campaign, where he slashed .208/.264/.599 before being relegated to the Minors. At 6 FT 3, he nearly weights 270 LBS now. Montero is just 24 years old, but he has played up to his billing since being acquired from the New York Yankees. The M's organization is simply fortunate that Pineda hasn't put on a uniform ever for the Pinstripers yet. That will all change.

My how the times have drastically changed At 6 FT 3, he nearly weights 270 LBS. Montero is just 24 years old, but he hasm’t played up to his billing since being acquired from the New York Yankees.
